Bond 007-Spectre

Watch Trailer

Spectre is the 24th film in the Bond franchise, the fourth starring Daniel Craig, the second directed by Sam Mendes.

A cryptic message from the past leads James Bond (Daniel Craig) to Mexico City and Rome, where he meets the beautiful widow (Monica Bellucci) of an infamous criminal. After infiltrating a secret meeting, 007 uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation SPECTRE. Needing the help of the daughter of an old nemesis (Léa Seydoux), he embarks on a mission to find her. As Bond ventures toward the heart of SPECTRE, he discovers a chilling connection between himself and the enemy (Christoph Waltz) he seeks.

spectreWe open with an action sequence set in Mexico City during the Day of the Dead. It’s a set piece that sees our hero blow up a building and loop-the-loop in a helicopter, and it’s filmed by Mendes as a continuous five-minute tracking shot.

$34 million of trashed cars, night-time sessions on a pitch-black Thames, and Daniel Craig’s long list of injuries, the $303 million film wasn’t easy to film.

The cast is excellent. Waltz creates an unnerving villain, particularly during his silhouetted opening scenes. Max Denbigh, or C (the implied name’s very much intentional), Andrew Scott delivers a wonderfully arrogant performance. Ben Whishaw’s Q delivers some genuinely funny lines and lovely Seydoux brilliantly plays the role of a strong and sexy Bond Girl that, for once, doesn’t look like she just jumped out of a fashion magazine.

Craig has said he wants out of the Bond series and people are starting to wonder who will be the next Bond, James Bond. Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston and Colin Firth have all been rumoured for the iconic part.

Craig is signed on to shoot at least one more film but it is looking more and more likely that a different actor will be zooming around in Bond’s Aston Martin next time he hits the big screen.
