Imagine getting to work one morning to discover that your new colleague is a 70 year-old retired man. Would you find it reasonable? The new film from writer and director Nancy Meyers brings to the screen this situation, for most unusual, but very creative, fresh and innovative.

the-intern-movie70 year-old widower Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) has discovered that retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway).

By definition, an intern is a student or trainee who works, sometimes without pay, in order to gain work experience or satisfy requirements for a qualification. What director Meyers has done is changing that concept for something very different. The professionals of a company will learn from a senior intern rather than the intern learning from the company, bringing his experience and expertise to a new world where things move to fast to realise what’s going on around them.

This idea, which the producers have introduced on their own payroll (a senior intern has worked in this prodution), could and should be implemented in all companies. This will not only help retired people to recover the sense of their lives, but will also help this changing society to bring back moral and working values that are long forgotten.

A feel-good movie that will change the way you see the new emerging companies and their assets. Robert De Niro brings to the screen once more his most funny side to help Anne Hathaway get back on check, and show people with his same age that there’s life after retirement, and it is not only walks in the park and looking after grand children.
